Rock Eisteddfod
Rock Eisteddfod is a nation wide competition that incorporates choreography and storytelling. A theme, usually a famous novel or film, is selected and then reworked into an eight minute performance, through dance, drama, props and lighting. The eisteddfod rules state that students be drug and alcohol free.
Our combined production with Randwick Girls’ has produced rather pleasing results since the early 1990s. Many places were gained during the early years, with the team first reaching the finals in 1995, and has been a regular finalist since that time.
The first victory was gained in 2001, with “Othello – The Moor Of Venice”, followed by the winning productions of “To Kill A Mockingbird” in 2002 and “The Secret Garden” in 2003. “To Kill A Mockingbird” also took the title of the “National TV Champion” in 2002
The Randwick Rock Eisteddfod team consists of performers and props crews from both the schools. The show would also be impossible without the constant help and support from the families and friends of the participants.
Another mention must also go to the co-ordinators of the two schools, Miss H Boening (from Randwick Boys’) and Miss K Fagan (from Randwick Girls’) and the incomparable Alysia Hodges, the creative director and choreographer.
