Our History

Randwick Boys’ High was founded in 1883, only three years after the establishment of public education in New South Wales. In other words, the school is almost as old as public education itself.

In 1990, a history of the school was compiled by Mr & Mrs Eddie Lyon, who at that time had a son in the school. The history makes interesting reading:

Randwick Boys' High School 1883‑1990: A Brief History.

Preface to the printed edition:

With the establishment of a Government school at Randwick in 1883 (replacing the church school of thirty years earlier) an evolutionary process began which culminated more than half a century later when the senior boys' section of the complex became one of the first full High Schools serving the Eastern Suburbs. Building on the existing traditions it soon established a fine record academically and on the sporting fields, one of which everyone involved over the decades can be proud. This small book traces that evolutionary process.

We apologise for any errors or omissions which may have occurred. The editors would appreciate any information, documents and photographs from any period to help update a more detailed history being compiled. Contact can be made through the School.

Many people, who have had connections with the school over the years, have contributed to this book. However, we would particularly like to acknowledge and thank Messrs. G. Burke, K. Hiscoe, M. Metzker, G. Prenter, D. Thomett, S. Townsend, and A. Turner for their recollections, D. Alexander, other present staff members, R.B.H.S. Canteen, G. Turner, and P & C members for their valuable contribution to this publication.
